Literacy update 6 March 2014

Kia ora tātou,
Here I am opening with a reflection on the weather. I flew to Invercargill early this week and saw snow low on the hills, and have just taken a couple of stunning snow shots on the way up to Te Anau. How are you empowering your learners to share their weather feelings?   Tellagami is a free app that allows a 30 second recording set to your avatar or background!  How could you use Tellagami in your programme?

It has been a very quiet week on the mailing list.  I wonder if that is a sign you are all so busy with your classroom setup and programmes.  What questions do you have?  How could you seek support from this list?

Last week I had the privilege of visiting the Ellerslie Flower Show and was wowed by the school gardens on display.  Do you have a school garden?  How could you use this to support your literacy programme, or encourage your learners to use their literary skills to get one going?

Literacy Online Book Recommendations list continues to grow. I have added  The Writing Book by Sheena Cameron and Louise Dempsey.  I was delighted to receive my copy this week and am thoroughly enjoying exploring it. It is very well structured and resourced and I am enjoying networking with educators around New Zealand who have and are using this resource.  How have you used it with your learners? What can you share?

The literacy online vln group continues to grow. This week I invite you to check out the oral language page.   What can you use, share, add to this site?

Our community newsletter is now online.
